The key difference between both kinds of sounds are broken down below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewer-amq2o\">Diegetic<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-5p0rk\">Sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose sound is implied to be present by the action in the film; also characterized by offscreen or on-screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewer-1p5th\"><strong>Types of Diegetic Sound:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Character dialogue<\/strong> is the most obvious example of a diegetic sound.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Object sounds<\/strong> give a film more realism. The film\u2019s characters are not able to hear non-diegetic sound. All non-diegetic sound is added by sound editors in post-production. &#8211; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masterclass.com\/articles\/diegetic-sound-and-non-diegetic-sound-whats-the-difference#2-examples-of-transdiegetic-sound-and-when-a-filmmaker-should-use-it\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>MasterClass<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-so0q\"><strong>Types of Non-Diegetic Sound:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The film\u2019s score<\/strong> is used to set the film\u2019s tone. This sound is used to plan and evoke audience emotions, add to the drama, express doubtfulness, or present an element of surprise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sound effects<\/strong> added for dramatic effect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Narration or voice-over<\/strong> is used by the director to assist in the explanation or reinforcement of the plot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-hsov\">Again, these are things ONLY the audience hears, and the characters involved in the story do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewer-e3e28\"><strong>Editing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-5b9i7\">Film editing is one of the aspects or parts of a film that usually tend to go unnoticed (at least in Hollywood films!). The main job of the film&#8217;s editor is to put together the shots involved in the storyline and make their flow as smooth and fluid as possible to ensure the audience can fully engage in following the film&#8217;s plot. It refers to everything placed on the stage or in front of the camera\u2014including people. In other words, mise en sc\u00e8ne is a catch-all for everything that contributes to the visual presentation and overall \u201clook\u201d of a production.
